ABSTRACT THE FACTORS AFFECTING SUCCESS OF SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS IN EAST AND SOUTHEAST OF TURKEY ŞAHİN, İsmet Ph. D., Department of Educational Sciences Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Yener GÜLMEZ MARCH 1997, 235 pages This thesis aims in defining the factors affecting the success of secondary school students in the East and Southeast Anatolia. The factors studied are named in the literature as "Social" factors, in which family-related factors and school-related factors are included. The study is based on the perceptions of the students, teachers and school administrators concerning the above mentioned elements of education. In order to achieve the purpose of the research study, questionnaires for students, teachers and administrators were developed proving their validity and reliability. The data obtained was analyzed statistically to test the hypotheses formulated prior to the study.
