Fakhr al-Dīn al-Rāzī's understanding of al-asmā al-husnā

The various debates on theological matters concerning divine attributes, prophethood, and scriptural subjects, acknowledged by scholars of Sunni belief as the usul-i selase are also reflected in discussions surrounding the al-asmā al-husnā category. Since the early periods of theological discourse, numerous issues related to the attributes of Allah have been articulated through the prism of al-asmā al-husnā. Whether expressed as attributes or names, debates concerning a particular quality inherent to Allah are fundamentally the same. For instance, discussions about the justice attribute of Allah are expounded through the al-asmā al-husnā term of 'adl,' while matters concerning the attribute of majesty are deliberated through names like celîl, kebîr, alî, müteâlî and azîm. Therefore, the examination of al-asmā al-husnā from a theological standpoint holds significance in establishing a robust and accurate understanding of Allah. Rāzī, a prominent scholar within the Sunni tradition, recognizing the importance of this subject, not only authored an independent work on it but also incorporated discussions on al-asmā al-husnā in his other non-independent works. Consequently, the aim of our thesis titled "Fakhr al-Dīn al-Rāzī's Understandıng of al-Asmā al-Husnā" is to identify Rāzī's perspective on al-asmā al-husnā. The thesis comprises an introduction, two main sections, and a conclusion.
