Abstract (EN)
Milling, one of the machining methods, is one of the most commonly used machining methods in today's industry. Today, HSS and Tungsten Carbide (WC) end mills are widely used. HSS end mills have been replaced by WC end mills with developing material technology and manufacturing methods. The features that an end mill should have are the ability to cut at high speeds and have a long wear life. Tungsten Carbide (WC) end mills are resistant to tool wear due to their ultra-hardness. In this study, work was done on the development of WC end mills. The helix angles of the end mills were changed and their analysis was made in terms of machining. In these analyses, it was seen that the wear life was extended by changing the helix angle. This is the most important feature desired from a cutting tool. Again, in this study, the wear resistance and cutting life of the end mills with high wear resistance were increased by applying ZrN, AlTiN, AlCrN, TiSiN coatings. As a result of the study, it was seen that the use of end mills with helical angles of 30, 50, 60 degrees would be more advantageous, and in terms of coating, AlTiN coating has advantages over other coatings in terms of both end mill life and wear. In order to better see the structural bond of WC, the main material of the end mills produced, with the coatings, it was seen that all four coating materials were structurally compatible as a result of microstructure analyses. It is thought that studies to be conducted using different alloy elements or changing the coatings used will shed light on determining the characteristics of end mills.
