Abstract (EN)

During the development of periodontal diseases, some markers, that are increased the destruction of host tissues, while some of them may protect the tissues against the destruction process are secreted from the host according to the presence of pathogenic bacteria. The aim of this study is to determine the changes in the IL-10 and TIMP-1 levels of GCF, serum and gingival tissues of patients with chronic and aggressive periodontitis after periodontal treatment, and to compare these results with healthy controls.9 CP, 9 AP and 6 healthy controls were involved in this study. PI, GI, PPD, CAL, BOP levels are measured, GCF, serum and gingival tissue samples are collected before the treatment anda at the 3rd , 6th month after treatment. IL-10 and TIMP-1 levels was determined by ELISA.Measurements revealed that the PI and PPD levels at baseline were significantly lower in the CP group than the AP. All clinical parameters were lower after the periodontal treatments for both CP and AP groups. Concentration of TIMP-1 in GCF was higher in the control group than both periodontitis groups and it was higher for the CP group than the AP. The decrease in the concentration of IL-10 in GCF of the CP group was statistically significant for the 6th month measurements. Additionally the increase of TIMP-1 in GCF of the AP group was statistically significant for both 3rd and the 6th month measurements. The levels of IL-10 in serum at baseline were measured to be higher in the AP group and the levels of TIMP-1 in serum was higher in the CP. In gingival 112tissues, there were no significant differences in the concentration of IL-10 between the groups; whereas TIMP-1 levels were higher in the control group than both of the periodontitis groups, and higher in the CP than the AP.In conclusion, IL-10 and TIMP-1 concentration showed significant changes in both the CP and AP groups after a successful treatment, especially these changes were more apparent in the AP group.Key Words: Periodontal diseases, IL-10, TIMP-1
