Evaluation of fracture strength of tooth restored with different post and core materials

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different core materials and post lengths on the fracture strength of different posts (fiber and zirconia posts).In this study, hundred freshly exracted human maxillary central incisor teeth of similar size and shape were divided into 10 groups according to the post material,post length and core material. Following root canal treatment these restorative procedures were performed: 10-15 mm fiber post with composite resin core, 10-15 mm fiber post with resin core, 10-15 mm zirconia post with composite resin core, 10-15 mm zirconia post with resin core, 10-15 mm zirconia post and core. The posts were cemented with a self-adhesive luting agent and light-cured for 20 s using a halogen light curing unit. Metal crowns were made for each specimen, cemented and loaded to failure. The data were analyzed using three-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey HSD post-hoc tests.Fracture strength of roots was statistically significant affected by the type of post material (p<0.05), but not by the length of post and core materials used.As a result; longer zirconia posts with zirconia or resin cores can be recomended as alternative treatments to fiber posts with resin cores.Key words: fiber post, fracture strength, post length, resin core, zirconia post.
