Abstract (EN)
It is known that battery power systems, which are increasingly used today, have many problems due to the heat generation in their internal structures during their use. In the literature, it is stated that the ideal operating temperature range of lithium-ion batteries is between -20 °C and 60 °C. In this study, the cooling of a battery system consisting of three rows and seven columns using a phase change material-based battery thermal management system has been studied. It has been studied according to constant and variable heat generation situations. In the case of constant heat generation; numerical analyzes were carried out using COMSOL for three different systems such as without PCM, PCM applied and PCM and fins applied, and for three different parameters such as four different Reynolds number values of air under forced convection, three different heat generation values two different PCM types. In case of variable heat generation; numerical analyzes were carried out using COMSOL for two different systems such as with and without PCM applied in the situation where the Reynolds number value of the air under forced convection was 50 and the battery cells were discharged with 3C. The flow lines of the air along the battery pack, the maximum temperature values of the battery cells, the time it takes for the temperature of the battery cells to reach 60 °C, the temperature distribution of the battery pack, and the behavior of the PCM surrounding the battery cells during the phase change process were investigated.
