Feminist analysis of the image of women in Turkish movie posters within the framework of graphic design principles

Movie posters are one of the most widely used areas of graphic design in our age, with a wide range of developing, changing and transforming technology. Used to inform, raise awareness and mobilize the society, movie posters have the potential to convey their message quickly and effectively. The social importance of the movie poster is not limited to providing information; it can also shape cultural and social norms. In this context, movie posters are effective visual tools used to emphasize the existence and rights of women in social, economic and cultural fields. In this study, the image of women in Turkish movie poster designs is critically analyzed within the scope of graphic design principles and feminist theories. The changes created by social norms on women are analyzed within the framework of the conceptual tools of Feminist theory. In addition, the social role of women, who gained visibility in the context of modernization, was tried to be associated with the analysis of film posters. Within the scope of the limitations of the study, 11 Turkish movie posters, which are still recognized today, were analyzed in terms of content and image (design) by using observation and written document analysis from qualitative research methods. It has been observed that movie posters with effective visual expressions and accurate message conveyors are not only valuable as promotional tools, but also as a mirror of the sociological and cultural structure, telling the social life and gender roles of the period, not only in terms of cinema history, but also in terms of monitoring and understanding social transformations.
