Determination of the needs of science and technology courses teachers as regards to education and teaching

Science education has an important part in the development and improvement of a country scientifically and technologically. The basic condition of the growth of the individuals who will sustain the development and improvement is to have a science education of good quality.Today, in order to increase the quality of an education, the education programmes are renewed and improved. Apart from this necessity, another important subject that should be considered is to determine the needs of teachers and to enable increase of the quality of education by providing these needs. Teachers to whom we leave our future are expected to be the ones who can communicate with thier students effectively, who can provide a good environment for learning, who are efficient in their professions, who are able to use education technologies, who are productive and inclined to team work , who set an example for the others, who can follow the national and international developments in his /her proffesion, who are able to benefit from sources, who lead for the improvement of the quality of education and who protect the basic principles of the Republic.With the help of these individuals, the number of people in our country who can think scientificaly, who can question and search will rise and our counrty will reach a position that can compete with its rivals in this developing and changing world.The importance of science and technology appears at this point and an effective teacher whose needs are provideded well will spend most of her /his time in reaching the goals. The best investment is the one made for people and education.This research was made in the districts of Ankara (Çankaya, Elmadağ, Etimesgut, Yenimahalle, Sincan) with 89 teachers who teach science and technology in spring in the period of 2006-2007 education programme to determine the general needs of teachers who teach science and technology. In the research, as a means of gathering information, 88 questioned linkered type need determining survey was used.According to the survey results;? A vast majority of teachers who took part in the survey expressed that they felt great necessity about the opinions in the survey.? There isn?t an important difference between the needs of male and female teachers.? When the teachers who took part in the survey are categorized according to their professional experience years, there isn?t an important difference between their scores about their needs.? When the teachers who took part in the survey are categorized according to their years of graduation, there isn?t an important difference between their scores about their needs.
