Abstract (EN)

In this study, it was aimed to determine the amounts of dioxins in the muscle tissue of spiny eel (Mastacembelus mastacembelus, Banks and Solander, 1794) from Fırat river system. For this purpose, total length, weight, sex, age groups and dioxin amounts in muscle tissue of fish samples were found and then the changes of dioxin amounts with total length, weight, sex and age groups were examined. Ten fish samples were determined as six males and four females. Mean values of weight, total length and age of fish were 210.15 g, 427.7 mm and 3 years respectively. Toxic equivalent (TEQ) of dioxins was found as 18.41 pg/g lipid and 92.06 pg/100g muscle. It was determined that the amounts of dioxins decreased with the increase of total length, weight and age of fish. Dioxins level in the muscle tissue of females was found higher than that in the muscle tissue of males. The results were compared with the standards for dioxins determined by World Healthy Organization (WHO) and discussed whether this fish has a healthy risk or not when they were consumed as food.
