ivABSTRACTTHE IMPACT OF GALATA BANKERS ON THE OTTOMAN PUBLICFINANCE SYSTEM: THE CASE OF BALTAZZI FAMILYMehmet OğlakçıDepartment of Public FinanceAfyonkarahisar Kocatepe University, The Institute of Social SciencesJanuary 2007Advisor: Assistant Professor Abdülkerim ÇALIŞKANIn this study, main reasons for internal and external debt of Ottoman Statefrom the establishing to end of 19. century and Galata Bankers, the main internal debtsource of ottoman state, and activities of Baltazza Family which one of the Galatabankers, was examined. Besides, positive and negative effects of Galata Bankers andBaltazza Family on Ottoman economy is also revealed. Additionally, interview wasconducted with a member of family, Alex Baltazzi, to get a comprehensive informationand was analysed by using descriptive approach. Consequently, it is realized that,Baltazzi Family had had positive effect on Ottoman economy.
