Abstract (EN)

This thesis explores the relationship between reason and intuition in the epistemological systems of Islamic thinker Al-Ghazali and French philosopher Henri Bergson. It aims to understand the different approaches to knowledge by examining the interaction between reason and intuition and their roles in the process of acquiring knowledge. Al-Ghazali's epistemology focuses on how the relationship between reason and intuition is shaped within religious and mystical contexts. He utilizes both reason and intuition as tools for acquiring knowledge, viewing them as complementary in elucidating divine and metaphysical experiences. In Al-Ghazali's thought, intuition emerges as a direct and mystical means of obtaining divine knowledge. His works, particularly 'Ihya' and 'El-Munkız,' detail the role of reason and intuition in accessing knowledge and the tension and cooperation between these methods.Bergson's epistemology, on the other hand, emphasizes the importance of intuition, considering it crucial for understanding the dynamic nature of life. Bergson differentiates between reason and instinct, proposing intuition as the most effective method for grasping the essence of existence and the continuity of life. His philosophy illustrates how intuition and reason work together to facilitate a dynamic process of knowledge acquisition and the role of each in understanding life's essence.
