Abstract (EN)
Aim: The aim of this research is to determine the effect of the education about newborn care given to pregnant women on traditional attitudes and practices. Material and Methods: The methodological phase of the study, which was carried out in two phases in a Family Health Center, was carried out with 533 mothers, and the second phase with 74 mothers. The data were collected using the Socio-demographic Information Form, the Mothers' Traditional Practice Attitudes towards Infant Care Scale [TPAS], and the Maternal Health and Infant Care Dysfunctional Beliefs and Practices Scale [SNBA-MHCC] - The Dysfunctional Practices for Infant Care Dimension. The training group was given training in the family health center on issues related to newborn care. Education and control group pre-test post-test TPAS and SNBA-MHCC-Dysfunctional Practices for Infant Care were evaluated. Results: In the first phase of the study, it was concluded that the evidence obtained regarding the psychometric properties of TPAS was strong, according to the results of the validity and reliability analyzes. According to the results of the validity and reliability analyzes, it was determined that TPAS consisted of seven sub-dimensions and 23 items. In the second stage, it was concluded that the change within and between groups in the total score averages of the TPAS and SNBA-MHCC-Dysfunctional Practices Related to Infant Care was significant after the training. Conclusions: At the methodological stage, it was determined that TPAS is a valid and reliable scale for determining mothers' traditional practice attitudes towards infant care. As a result of the research, it was determined that the mothers showed correct knowledge and belief about baby care after the training given.
