Abstract (EN)

With its inception in the aftermath of the Industrial Revolution and World Wars, the concept of sustainability has found its place in a wide range of fields. Increasing global population, shifting consumer expectations, and poor production/consumption strategies have resulted in the degradation of the ecosystem of which we are a part, as well as climate change. With the advancement of technology, the notion of sustainable design in the building sector has entered our lives as an understanding that is compatible with its surroundings, utilizes energy efficiently, protects natural resources, and can respond to user expectations. In terms of features such as construction techniques, material selection, plan setup, placement on the land, harmony with nature and its environment, and controlled use of resources, traditional residential buildings have been found to be compatible with the concept of sustainable design, which has been incorporated into our lives in architectural practice since the last quarter of the twentieth century. The objective of this thesis study is to examine to the reflections of sustainable architecture and design in traditional residential buildings that are shaped by the natural environment, cultural structure, and economic conditions in the Zeytinlik District of Giresun province. Similar investigations were conducted, and 18 Dik Sokak residential buildings were appraised in accordance with the established sustainability standards.
