Abstract (EN)
As a result of the rapid increase in the world population and the consequent rapid and unconscious consumption of natural resources, a universal environmental crisis is experienced. In this sense, the construction industry is participating in this crisis with a destructive and one-way benefit approach, rather than acting as a part of the ecosystem. Today, ecological architecture provides an important reference for reducing the environmental crisis dimension of the building sector. While ecological architecture develops its own criteria in today's conditions, it can also take references from the past. In this sense, the analysis of traditional architecture in accordance with the data of the geography it is in and the understanding of building production, where the damage to the ecosystem is at low levels, contains important lessons for today's architectural understanding. Within the scope of this study, a group of traditional architecture in Battalgazi district center is analyzed in terms of meeting ecological architecture criteria. For this purpose, the buildings in the study area were analyzed through ecological architectural criteria such as settlement, building form and building envelope design, indoor air quality, efficient use and recovery of water, and energy efficient landscape design. As a result of the evaluations made for the conformity of the buildings to the ecological criteria, it has been determined that the traditional buildings of Malatya have ecological design criteria and have unique structural features. Malatya traditional houses are especially suitable for ecological design criteria; It contributes to the selection of materials, the design of the building envelope, the design of suitable building openings, and the interior organization. Since the traditional buildings are neglected with the acceleration of urbanization in Malatya, it is important that these characteristics of the traditional structures of Malatya, which are examined within the scope of the study, are not lost and that they shed light on today's architectural understanding.
