Abstract (EN)

This study, which has been carried out in order to determine some water quality parameters and the pollution level of the Gelevera Creek which disembogue into Black Sea from the Espiye County of Giresun City, was started in June 2012 and ended in May 2013. The research has been carried out for 12 months and water samples has been taken from determined three different stations by monthly. The water quality parameters of dissolved oxygen, pH, temperature, salinity, total dissolved solids (TDS), conductivity, chlorophyll-a, oxidation reduction potential (ORP), biochemical oxygen demand (BOİ5), total alkalinity, total hardness, total ammonia nitrogen (TAN), ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, sulphite, sulfate, chloride, total phosphate, soluble reactive phosphorus (SRP), total suspended solids (TSS) were analyzed. Additionally, pH and organic matter contents were measured from sediment samples. The means of obtained data were as follow; dissolved oxygen; 8,84 mgL-1, pH; 7.70, temperature; 13,19°C, salinity; 0,06 ppt, TDS; 0,086 gL-1, conductivity; 131 mScm-1, ORP; -95,1 mV, BOİ5; 4,38 mgL-1, total alkalinity; 33 mgL-1, total hardness; 62 mgL-1, chlorophyll-a; 1,55 ugL-1, TAN; 0,65 mgL-1, ammonia; 0,028 mgL-1, nitrite; 0,003 mgL-1, nitrate; 2,01 mgL-1, sulphite 7,92 mgL-1, sulfate; 92 mgL-1, sodium; 11,40 mgL-1, potassium; 1,12 mgL-1, chloride; 0,034 mgL-1, total phosphate; 0,65 mgL-1, SRP; 0,031 mgL-1, TSS; 1,77 gL-1, pH of the sediment 7,4, the sediment water content 21,15% and combustible matter of sediment 4,56%. Obtained data showed that the water quality of Gelevera Creek may suitable for agricultural activities and may be a suitable habitat for the living beings and getting into the category of mild contaminated according it?s average total phosphate rate of 0,65 mgL-1. The creek, however, may be classified as clean water and has no threat regarding to rest of the detected parameters.
