Since the 1990s, urban regeneration projects have become important intervention mechanisms in the European and American cities to deal with decaying urban areas with physical and social problems and disinvestment. In the past three decades, the consequences of these urban regeneration projects have been closely studied and their limitations have been made public through the publications of the academics all over the world. Their studies revealed that to create successful urban regeneration projects, rather than top-down implementations, more inclusive and participatory schemes should be implemented. It is also acknowledged as an important fact that tourism-led urban regeneration projects should incorporate the themes of the authenticity and local culture by including the local community and their actors. Otherwise, such projects do not produce the intended results, as it is proven by the large volume of academic research produced by studying the European and American case studies. While most of the documented research has focused on the developed countries' experiences, there is relatively few studies looking at the case studies in the developing countries of the African continent. In the case of Libreville, urban regeneration incorporating urban tourism and authenticity seems to be one of the solutions to both manage finances and structurally improve urban spaces and urban structures. Although these practices are not new in the world, urban regeneration practices have quite a history in developed countries. These countries are the first to do this, and the lessons they have learned from their experience can be used in different cases of urban regeneration in Africa. The objective of this thesis is to search if an authentic and environmentally responsive urban regeneration project is being implemented to solve urban problems in Libreville. This cannot be anything other than urban regeneration through the participation of the local community. To this end, a series of studies have been carried out to study urban regeneration in Libreville. A case of urban regeneration projects has been analyzed by the local population as an example, to be able to obtain their point of view on the subject. As a result, quantitative data were collected and analyzed for better decryption.
