Abstract (EN)

The major disadvantage of internal combustion engines is the release of many hazardous gases, NOx, CO2, HC, and CO, from fossil fuels. Today, because of increasing global warming and the greenhouse effect, the development of internal combustion engine technologies with low fuel consumption and low emission values is very important. Exhaust gases are released as a result of combustion in the engine. The emission values of the engine depending on the efficiency of the combustion process. The diesel engine was tested and modeled using experimental techniques, QD, and CFD simulation methods. This thesis aims to reduce the emission values of the existing engine. In the engine, the values that affect the combustion efficiency, exhaust emission, and engine performance have been examined parametrically. The effects of the engine parameters such as piston bowl geometry, compression ratio, SOI, injection pressure, spray angle, number of injector holes, and EGR ratio on combustion efficiency, engine performance, and exhaust emissions were investigated. The piston bowl geometry was optimized in order to minimize the emissions using CFD model and genetic algorithm. In addition, the injection parameters and valve timings were optimized using the QD model and the genetic algorithm. As a result of the studies, the parameters that the engine emits the least emissions were determined. In the optimized engine, NOx, CO, and soot emissions were significantly reduced and also the performance was improved slightly. The engine with the optimized combustion chamber, improved injection parameters and optimized valve timings will be able to meet today's emission standards.
