Extended partial larenjectomy diseases' postoperative results and effects on quality of life

Abstract (EN)
Objective: After partial laryngectomy and extended partial laryngectomy of larynx cancer patients, how laryngeal functions were affected, last condition of voice quality of patients and life quality of patients after laryngectomy were evaluated. Patients and Methods: Between May 2010 and December 2015 patients who had diagnosed as larynx cancer and had operations of partial larygectomy and extended partial laryngectomy in otorhinolaryngology clinics of Gaziantep University Sahinbey Research and Practice Hospital were included to the study. A questionnaire formed from 3 forms was filled by these patients. By using SPSS 22.0 patients' findings were compared to each other. Results: Our study was started with 120 patients who had partial laryngectomy. During that time 12 of them were had total laryngectomy and they were excluded from the list. 67 person of remaining 90 patients joined to our questionnaire. Voice quality, duration of hospitalization, time of removing of nasogastric, location of tumor, time of decannulation and relation of foods and cough were evaluated according to the types of laryngectomies. Conlusions: According to types of laryngectomies functional score(FS), social functional score(SFK),symptom score(SK), fatigue score(FAS), general health score(GSS) and swallowing symptoms score(HNSW) calculated and compared. In those comparisons no statically significant differeces were found. In terms of voice quality there were significant differences between GSCL-SGL, SCL-SGL, GSGL-SGL groups(respectively p=0,001 p=0,004 p=0,004). KEY WORDS: Larynx cancer, life quality, voice.
