Abstract (EN)
In this study, the effects of guitar use as a teacher instrument on the music class achievement of primary school students was investigated. The design of the study is a pre-post test experimental design with control group. The schools included in the sample were selected according to the amount of class population, socio-cultural and economical conditions. The study was conducted in Kütükçü Alibey, Seyranbağları and Tevfik İleri Primary Schools under the Ministry of Education in Çankaya region in Ankara, during 2007-2008 educational semester.The experiment was conducted for six weeks within the subjects and target behaviors of the unit on ?Speed, Density and Expression in Music? in 6th year of the Primary Education Music Curriculum. During the study, guitar was used as teacher?s instrument in the experiment group and recorder was used in the control group.In this research, cognitive, psycho-motor and affective behaviors were separately assessed. The data collection instruments were; ?Structured Interview Form? for the music teachers; ?Cognitive Achievement Test? for measuring students? cognitive behaviors; ?Psycho-motor Behavior Observation Form? for measuring the students? psycho-motor behaviors; ?Affective Behavior Attitudes Scale? for measuring the students? affective behaviors; ?Students? Opinions Form? and ?Teachers? Opinions Form?. In order to analyze the data gathered, frequency (f), percentage (%), mean ( ), Student?s t test and Fischer Exact Chi-Square tests were used. Statistical significance level was accepted as .05.In the research, guitar use as a teacher?s instrument was found more effective in gaining cognitive behaviors whereas not effective in gaining psycho-motor and affective behaviors targeted in the ?Speed, Density and Expression in Music? unit.
