Sociological analysis of migration, culture and identity: The case of neighborhood of küpçüler and güneşler in Sakarya city

Abstract (EN)

The main objective in this study is to look for answers to the question of the causes and the social impacts behind the migration movements from the Eastern Anatolian to Küpçüler and Güneşler regions in Sakarya province in Turkey. In the study, it is analyzed how the migrants experienced the spatial and social transformation in the places where they have settled after the migration, and how they have undergone cultural and social transformation in the regions. The reaction of immigrants to the social and economic problems they face and the way they approach the problems constitute one of the main issues of this work. Methodologically, in-depth interviews with 20 people were conducted with immigrants located in Güneşler and Küpçüler regions in Sakarya province, where have become home to the migrants from the eastern part of Turkey, and information and findings related to the field survey were collected using questionnaires with 152 people. In the field survey, the migrants' transformation in their own culture and identity, their present occupation, their ages, their gender, the reasons for immigration, the way in which they decided to migrate and the cultural and social structure of their location are analyzed.
