Abstract (EN)
In the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery departments, mandibular impacted third molar operations are one of the most frequently performed procedures. NSAIDs are the most commonly investigated drugs to reduce the likelihood of postoperatively developing complications. Dexketoprofen trometamol and ketoprofen are routinely preferred in the prevention of pain that develops after the extraction of impacted mandibular third molars with bone retention. Pain is one of the most important complications after extraction and negatively affects the quality of life of patients. The aim of this study is to compare the pain relief activities of dexketoprofen trometamol and ketoprofen after the extraction of the mandibular impacted third molar teeth with bone retention. The study was performed in 2023 in patients who applied to the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Faculty of Dentistry of Süleyman Demirel University. The patients who have the panoramic radiograph with bilaterally mandibular impacted third molar have the mesioangular position were included in the study. The study was performed with 80 patients with an age range of 18 to 35. VAS (Visual Analog Scale) was used to evaluate the effects of the use of two drugs investigated in the study on pain. Quips questionnaire was also used to assess the quality of postoperative pain treatment. The results were statistically evaluated. Statistically significant differences between groups were found in the study. The use of postoperative ketoprofen showed higher pain scores than dexketoprofen trometamol. In addition, the use of dexketoprofen trometamol after the extraction was found to have higher satisfaction scores by the patients. Moreover, patients using ketoprofen needed more painkillers after the operation. There was no side effect for both drugs investigated in the study.
