Abstract (EN)
Color, affecting humanity from the beginning of the time, always had a place in the arts, together with the frame of mind of related era. Throughout the primitive period of time, human-being used a variety of ocher to paint colorful pictures on the cave walls, resembling their beliefs of magical nature. While doing this, they put meanings to the colors. Red for example, has been used along with white for religious ceremonies and funerals in Neolithic period. At the time of Byzantium Empire and Middle Age, color was symbolized, with the affect of the religion. White, red and green were perceived as the color of the good, while yellow and black meant pain and regret. While white being the color of light, infinity and pureness, navy blue was considered as a divine color. The clothes of Jesus Christ and Virgin Mary were pictured using navy blue. Yellow, symbolizing the bridge between the God and his servants was an ethereal color. The Renaissance artist Massacio, put the sense of perspective and deepness into his paintings. With light-dark shades of the color, Massacio put out masterful paintings depicting folds of fabric and volumniousty of places. While Mantegna used gray and white to reflect the cold face of the death, Boticelli used light pastel-like colors to reflect elegant nature of love. Jan Van Ecyk, the master of realistic art has been creating magnificent pieces of oil painting, while Leonardo's sfumato style made it possible to have softer appearances with the paintings...
