The effect of group counseling to the social skill level of secondary school students

The purpose of the research is to search the effect of rational emotive behaviour therapy (rebt) centred group counselling to the social skill level of secondary school students.In the research, experiment design with pre post test control group (ÖSKD) was used. The split plot design ANOVA was administered for comparison.In the research, Social Skill Inventory developed by Riggio in an effort to scale the social skills and adapted to Turkish culture by Yüksel and the Personal Sheet prepared by the researcher were administered simultaneously to 63 8th grade students of Denizli Çameli Atatürk Primary School. This Personal Sheet includes students?s personal information and evaluates their parents? socio economic situations and educational background. On the basis of pre-application data, 20 students 10 experimental 10 control group were selected from these 63 students. In the research, rational emotive behaviour therapy (REBT) centred group counselling was administered to experimental group during 10 weeks. On the other hand, control group were not taken any application.It has been seen that in the result of the comparison of the pre-post test of experimental and control group, there is a significant differentiation in the level of .05. According to these datas, it can be alleged that social skill education affects social skill level.Preparing social skill inventors for younger age groups and arranging educational courses according to these inventors can be suggested.Key words: Social Skill Education, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, Group Counselling.
