A study on convention tourism within the general tourism context of today: Istanbul case

Studying the relationship between tourism and city in a modern society in the context of policy aiming to develope new types at tourism, the thesis addresses the importance of convention tourism as an urban tourism. Firstly, the present situation and future of tourism sector and Turkish tourism are discussed. Then, the place and importance of our cities in both foreign tourism (incoming) and domestic tourism (ingoing) are evaluated using the data obtained from statistics (1993-1994) of The Ministry of Tourism. Lastly, convention tourism is described with emphasis on its national and international aspects, convention tourism of Istanbul city is studied and the national and international congresses hold starting from 1995 are evaluated.
