Abstract (EN)
It is observed that the artistic vıewpoint, which previously strived to reach it?s own conscious through objects, has developed into a perception that emphasized the subject especially after 1960?s. Art nowadays is becoming an inquiry that searches for answers in relation to the human/artist?s existance with a focus question of ?who am I??. Performances that feature the human body and self-portraits mainly involve examples of this approach. The artist who pushes her/his subjectivity through destruction and deformation of the reality of the objects on canvas since the beginning of 20th century, presents this new approach with her/his own body after the mid century. The human body as both the object and the subject of art, evolves into an arena in which presentations the subjectivity are visualized. The artictic creations of this nature, which involve subjective experiences and their reflections, questions traditional art forms, social lıfe rules and roles, sexual, ethnic, and social identities. Self-inquiry that is linked to selfness is also part of this trend.. The human being, who has been an object and a topic of research of philosophy, sociology and many other disciplines, strives to reconstruct her/his disintegrated structure and identity through art. The first stage of this reconstruction is the transformation of the ?self? into an artistic image. The inquires of identity and existantiality that were first represented in self-portraits involve the criticism of the roles between the object and the subject. The consideration of the reality of the self as an object, and to examine, to discover, to question, and to give meaning to it are parts of the processes of formation of self-identity. It can be said that the fact that a contemporary artist who considers her/his own body as an object which should be both disintegrated and reconstructed is an extention of a radical expression that started with the tradition of self-portrait.
