A thematic approach to the poems of Güven Turan

In this work, the poems of Güven Turan, one of the leading names of the 1960s generation, who wrote and still writes works in various fields such as poetry, novels, and short stories, were examined thematically. The study aims to determine the epistemological, thematic, and esthetic infrastructure of Güven Turan's poems. By focusing on the poet's use of poetic techniques and the prominent themes in his poems, we have determined how the poet gives esthetic value to his poems. Due to the polysemy of the poem text, different disciplines were used in the study to give meaning to the poems. To determine Güven Turan's esthetic infrastructure, the trends in Turkish poetry in the 1960s and the poet's attitude towards these trends are emphasized in the introductory section The poet's life and literary personality are also discussed in detail in this section. Then, considering his views on poetry and the poet, the elements that form the basis of his poems were determined. In the second part, the main part, where the poems are examined, it is seen that Güven Turan has created his poetic universe by concentrating on the themes of nature, seasons, love-sexuality, longing for childhood, escape, cities, and time. These themes, which he frequently emphasizes in his poems, have been examined under headings highlighting how these themes were treated. Based on the findings obtained in the last section, Güven Turan's place in Turkish poetry has been determined.
