Opinions of students' and faculty members' based on theinteraction between the courses related to art criticism andarts major workshop courses during fine arts education

Art education which is of importance to raise modern individuals has gravitated towards cognitive process in the process of time and included fields such as art criticism, art history and aesthetics. In this regard, individuals who received art education are expected to have asthetic perception, to be able to criticize and to have consciousness of the cultural structure of the world. Students receiving education in the field of art should be able to look more deeply into these fields and associate application studies with the subject contexts of art criticism at good level. The present study was conducted in the frame of phenomenological research design regarding explaining and investigating the students' interaction between workshop applications and subject contexts of art criticism in the department of fine arts education. The study group involved ten students receiving art education. The opinions of six faculty members concerning to the subject were also gathered. In the data collection process, data collection instruments such as 'semistructured interviews', 'focus group interviews' and 'document analysis' were utilized. In addition, an application based on an analysis of artworks were implemented with the students. The data collected were analyzed using thematic analysis and presented in a holistic structure. The findings indicated that students could make associations moderately based on art criticism and applications. These associations were mostly stylistic and thus far from being deep and philosophical.
