Action research about teaching kinetic typography in fine arts education

Kinetic typography is formed by designing typography, which is a visual communication subject by changing its image over time on the video, which is one of the current design medium. Until a certain period of time, kinetic typography was defined as every moving text. However, over the years, kinetic typography has included various qualities beyond this definition in its content through developing technologies. It has been determined that the teaching of this content is important for the students to recognize the new media. In this research, it is aimed that the students practice kinetic typography application, gain knowledge and experience related to the field and demonstrate the effect of this process on the their expression forms. Application of this research was conducted with third grade students enrolled in Graphic Design in Anadolu University Fine Arts Education Department during 2015-2016 Spring semester. The research was applied in 4 week period between February 23 and March 22 in 2016. The study was practiced with sixteen student and six focus student was determined. At the end of the reseach, semi-structured interviews were made with those six focus. The research was conducted through action research that is qualitative research model. Research data was obtained and evaluated from student information form, course video recordings, document review, researcher diary, student diaries, semi-structured interviews and social media interactions. In the conclusion of research, the changes in the approaches that the students show before and after the application, the knowledge and experience they have gained, the problems that are experienced with the implementation process are revealed.
