Determining the effect of trainer's leadership behaviours on students success motivation in folk dances

Abstract (EN)

Folk dance trainers have considerable influence on self-definition of folk dances which constitutes one of the most important and the largest areas of national culture within players', teamwork, leadership ability, self expression, healthy life and leisure time activities. This study aims to investigate the effect of trainer's leadership behaviours perceieved by sportsmen participating in folk dance teams at various universities in Turkey on their success motivation. The target population of the study consists of licenced players who were registered to the federation of university sports, played in folk dance teams at their universities and joined the competitions in 2014-2015 competition season. The sample of the study consists of folk dance players who joined a halay group competition of the university sports federation in 2014-2015 competition season and the licenced players of Karabük University who joined the competition in the same season . In total, 288 players consisting of 152 female players and 136 male players voluntarily participated in the study. "Personal Informatıon Form" developed by the researcher, "The Scale of Leadership in Sport" developed by Chelledurai and Saleh (1980) and "The Scale of Success Motivation" developed by Willis (1982) were used as data collection tools. For the evaluaton of the obtained data, frequency analysis as statisticalmethod, Spearman Correlation Analysis, Man Whitney U-Test to compare the two different groups, and KruskalWallis H- Test to compare more than two groups were used. As the result of the study,it has been found that there is a positive significiant relation between folk dancers' training and educational behaviour perception, and their democratic behaviour perception, social support behaviour perception, positive feedback behaviour perception and success motivation; that there is a positive significiant relation between folk dancers' democratic behaviour perception, and their social support behavior perception and positive feedback behavior perception; that there is a positive significiant relation between folk dancers' autocratical behaviour perception, and their social support behaviour perception; that there is a positive significiant relation between folk dancers' social support behaviour perception, and their positive feedback behaviour perception ; and finally that there is a positive significiant relation between folk dancers' positive feedback behaviour perception,and their success motivation. Besides, a significiant difference was found in folk dancers' trainer leadership behaviour perception according to the variables of sex and university but no statistically significiant difference was found according to the variables of age, state of education, time to deal with folk dance, sex of trainer and qualification status of the trainer. Morever, there is no statistically significiant difference in folk dancers' success motivation levels according to the variables of sex,age,state of education,sex of trainer and qualification status of trainer, but a statistically significiant difference was found in success motivation levels according to the variables of university and time to deal with folk dance.
