Hamzavi's Hamzaname (26. tome) introduction-analysi̇s-text-dictionary

Even though its subject is not history, Hamzaname occupies an imminent place, especially in folk literature, it benefits a lot from historical resources and sheds light onto them. At the top of these products, coming from the farthest periods of ancient history and keeping their existence until now, our legends shed light onto history. Legends shed light to history and constitutes as a source to idea and artistic life. In this sense sagas could be considered as legendary history. Turkish legends which include various information concerning Turks, fall into two groups as "Legends before Islam" and "Legends after Islam". It is also known that Hamzanames that constitutes of stories that subject Noble Hamza's life, his adventures and the wars he made, also take place amongst the folk stories. When Stylistic features of the works, its objective of writing and patterns in the work and specialities of the heroes is analysed, the idea that hamzanames are transitional products from legend to epics gains weight. In the light of all the studies carried out until up to date, many copies of Hamzaname is reached. Despite there are over hundred tomes of Hamzaname, scarcity of the number of studies carried on the topic draws attention. With the study we realized, one tome of the Hamzaname oeuvre that consists of 72 tomes, is presented to the attention of the researchers. Our objective in this study is to bring one of many tomes of the Hamzaname to modern Turkish and reveal the rich vocabulary in it, which despite being one of the most extensive and imminent works of Old Anatolian Turkish, did not call the attention of the researchers and was not much sought after. This study consists of three sections of introduction, analysis and conclusion. In the introduction part, general information on Noble Hamza, Hamzavi and Hamzaname is given. In the analysis section, life of Noble Hamza, Hamzavi's life and works are portrayed to the great extent. Also, a summary of the events that takes place in the tome 26 which subject this thesis. Besides that, stylistic analysis is realized and the number of lines on each page is examined. After that, vocabulary that takes place in the 26th tome of Hamzaname is classified according to its etymological roots and shown on the graphics. In the first section, the text in old script, is conveyed in new script applying the linguistic specialities of the Old Anatolian Turkish of the era. Even though it is a script without vowel points, considering the place and the period where the work is written, during the reading of the text linguistic specialities of the Old Anatolian Turkish was made dominant. Since our work was written in folk speech and lacking a standard orthographic quality, vocabulary of the text was written differently sometimes on the same page, sometimes on different pages. In this case, Arabic and Persian vocabulary took place correctly on our text. Turkish vocabulary is shown in the translated text, the way it existed in the original text. In the second section, a dictionary is prepared to portray the vocabulary framework thoroughly, in respect to vocabulary Hamzaname presents as a quite rich and voluminous text. In the dictionary contextual meaning is provided for each lexical entry and all the pages and lines that the word is shown one by one.
