SUMMARY THE ROLE OF THE CUSTOMS IN THE INNER MADHHAB PROCEDURE OF THE HANAFİ SCHOOL: THE MODEL OF IBN 'ABİDİN'S 'URF TREATISE Key Words: Ibn 'Abidin, Islamic jurisprudence, 'urf (custom), madhhab (legal school), tahsis. This is a study about a treatise called Neşru 'l-arffî binâi ba 'zı 'l-ahkâmi ale 7- 'urf by 19th century Ottoman jurist Ibn 'Abidin. The treatise explores the relationship between the religion law and social norms which is called Islamic jurisprudence 'urf. The study comprises of three chapters. In the first chapter the role of 'urf in Islamic jurisprudence is examined in order to provide a framework for Ibn 'Abidin' s views on 'urf. The second chapter focuses on the context of this treatise which seems to be a supplement to another treatise of Ibn 'Abidin titled Uqud Rasm al-mufti. The third chapter dwells on the examination and analysis of Ibn 'Abidin's views in the Naşhr al-'urf. vii
