Language scientific features of the Arab dialectal spoken in the harran region and oral literature materials

Few studies have been conducted on the Harran Arabic Dialect. The structure of the dialect spoken in Harran indicates that the Harran Arabic Dialect belongs to the Syro-Bedouin (desert) dialects group. In this study, it was also concluded that the related dialect belongs to the group of Šāwi Bedouin dialects. The Harran region, which remains within the borders of the Republic of Turkey and cuts off contact with Arab world, has used Arabic only orally and has gained some specific features together with the effect of Turkish language. Studies on the Harran dialect do not reveal the structure of this dialect comprehensively. With this study, the characteristics of phonetics, syntax, morphology and semantics of the Harran dialect were tried to be revealed. These features of the Harran Arabic Dialect have been revealed by us with the inferences made as a result of examining the materials compiled as a result of interviews with people who speak this language. This study concludes that the Harran Arabic Dialect contains the features seen in classical dialects such as kashkasha, istintaa, 'an'ana, taltala, that it maintains many rules and general structure in Modern Standard Arabic and has developed its own rules in some subjects and that it differs from Modern Standard Arabic in pronunciation. It has also been observed that the effect of Turkish language has increased especially on the language of the young people. The fact that Turkish is the dominant language, as well as the language of television and social media has a great impact on this. While some Turkish words pass into the dialect as they are, sometimes these words are adapted to the Arabic structure. Although the current oral literature accumulation of the Harran Arabic Dialect has a considerable range, it is not possible to say that it is rich in terms of its structure. We have been told many times by the people of the region that people who recite improvised poems and laments and quarrel with poetry couplets died a generation or two ago, and that the survivors know very little of this literature accumulation. Despite all these effects, the Harran dialect has still not lost its identity as an Arabic dialect and it is a fact that it can easily establish a dialogue with the Arabs, but it seems difficult for this language to survive in the future. This study aimed to preserve the structure of this language by recording it in general.
