Abstract (EN)

Objective: To examination the effects of training given to patients before intramuscular injection into the ventrogluteal area on pain, anxiety, fear of injection, comfort and patient satisfaction. Materials and Methods: This is a quasi-experimental study. The study was conducted at the Sandıklı State Hospital Emergency Service Injection Clinic between February and April 2024. A total of 160 patients, 80 in the control group and 80 in the intervention group, who applied to the clinic for injection and met the sampling criteria, were included in the study sample. Data were collected using the introductory information form, State-Trait Anxiety Scale and Visual Analog Scale. In accordance with the purpose of the study, the data were evaluated using descriptive statistics, t test, chi-square and one-way analysis of variance. Results: The mean age of the patients in the intervention group was 39.43±13.31 (Min-max: 19-65) and 40.39±14.06 (Min-max: 18-65) in the control group. 52.5% of the patients in the intervention group were female and 48.8% had a bachelor's degree or higher. 52.5% of the patients in the control group were female and 46.3% had a high school level education. A statistically significant difference was found in favor of the intervention group in terms of post-application state anxiety between the intervention and control groups. A statistically significant difference was found in favor of the control group in terms of post-application pain and comfort between the intervention and control groups. It was determined that there was no statistically significant difference between the intervention and control groups in terms of post-application injection fear and satisfaction with the injection process. Conclusion: The education given to the patients had a statistically significant positive effect in terms of state anxiety. However, it was not observed to have a positive effect on pain, injection fear, comfort and patient satisfaction, and it is thought that more studies should be conducted on this subject.
