Hospitals are oneof the important organizations for the health service. The hospitals have theeconomical income and outcome for treatment expenses of the patients, salary ofthe personnel, equipment, physical buildings and other necessities. Because of thisreason they are not accepted as only an institution for the diagnosis and thetreatment of the patients. Besides this, they are also commercial establishments.One of the important aims of the hospitals is to diagnose and treat the patientsusing economical capacity in harmony with the realities of the country and optimalquality. The management of the equipments with a good organization is necessaryin order to develop and standardize this aim.In Turkey, many of the hospitals do not have a standardized equipmentmanagement system till now. In our study we searched `?the equipment and servicemanagement department?? of 9 Eylul University Medical Faculty Hospital as anexample for our country.9 Eylül University Medical Faculty Hospital has a matrix organization.Doctors, assistant doctors, nurses and medical students are the users ofequipment management project. The equipment management department is makingthe coordination between users and the stock department. The users are educatedviiby the personnel of equipment management department. The users and theadministrators have meetings periodically in order to solve the problems. Thereforethe system is managed altogether. Equipment management department is a subunitof administrative department of the hospital. They are using the `?Always BetterControl?? analyzing method for equipment management. The economical status offuture necessities is analyzed using Pareto method. All the equipment of thehospital is computerized and management and planning is made by computeranalyses. Therefore the department is evaluating the data of the past for futureplans.The medical outcome of the hospitals is growing with the fast developmentof medical and technical science. With this reality, all hospitals should be wellorganized and standardized for the equipment management in order to helpdeveloping of our national health system.Key Words: 1) Hospital Organization, 2) Stock Management, 3) MaterialManagement in Hospitalsviii
