n ABSTRACT Ph.D. Thesis ALGAE AND THEIR SEASONAL VARIATIONS IN THE LITTORAL AREA (BETWEEN DSİ EDUCATION CAMP AND GEZİN SETTLEMENT) OF ]UKE HAZAR Mehmet Tahir ALP Fırat University Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Department of Aquaculture 2002, Page: 129 In this study, species composition of phytoplankton and phytobethos and their seasonal variations were investigatedra samplestaken from five sampling stations in the littoral region (between DSİ education camp and Gezin settlement) of lake Hazar, between January and December 2000. A total of 90 taxa belong to Bacillariophyta (70 taxa), Chlorophyta (14 taxa) and Cyanophyta (6 taxa) were identified trhoughout the study. Of all, Bacillariophyta was the most conspicuous algal grup in terras of number of taxa both in phytoplankton and phytobethos followed by Chlorophyta and Cyanophyta. Diatoms were also the most noticable in their occurence in almost every season with higher cell numbers Ihan other algal groups. Diatoms (Bacillariophyta), in terms of txon numbers occurence in phytoplankton and phytobenthos and individual numbers of diatoms in epilithon were by far higher than those recorded epipsaramon and phytoplankton. Green and Blu-green algae occured generally during summer and early autum. However growths of these algae were more noticable in summer. Correlation between growths of algae and physical and chemical features of the Littoral region littoral region studied appared to be complex. Trophic level of the lake was discussed according to chamical and biological features of the studied region of the lake. Anahtar Kelimeler : Phytoplankton, Phytobenthos, Lake Hazar, Elazığ.
