The relation between temporality and spatiality as determinations of being in Heidegger

This study aims to explain Heidegger's understanding of spatiality based on his early and later works. Heidegger's understanding of Being is crucial in his philosophy. In his early works, Heidegger establishes the fundamental relation with Being through Dasein. This study examines the fundamental relation and openness of the human being to Being in terms of spatiality. It also aims to show that, contrary to what is stated in Being and Time, a spatiality in itself is possible without the grounding of temporality. In his early works, Heidegger grounds spatiality in the perspective of 'Sorge', one of the fundamental characters of Dasein, and temporality. Therefore, a complete understanding of spatiality is only possible by comprehending Heidegger's later works. Hence, this study does not only base on Heidegger's early works. Heidegger's understanding of phenomenology and art are considered together with the human 'experience' of dwelling. The fact that the human being is the preserver of Being as a result of being-in-the-world always shows that the human being has an inseparable connection with essential and existential spatiality. As a result of this study, along with the spatiality of the human being, the understanding of Being is explained in terms of ontology and phenomenology, art and truth, building and dwelling.
