The effect of collaboration among nurses on nurses tendency to make medical error

This research was conducted to determine the effect of collaboration among nurses on nurses tendency to make medical error. The universe of this descriptive study consists all nurses working in a university hospital in Ankara (n=550). The sampling, to includes nurses who were active in this hospital and who accepted the research (n=270). The ethical leave of the study was given in January 2018 by Bozok University Rectorate Clinical Research Ethics Committee. The data tools collect consist in three parts in the study: "Personal Data Form" which include personal data, "Nurse-Nurse Collaboration Scale" adaptation to Turkish by Çelik Durmuş and Yıldırım (2016), "Medical Error Tendency Scale" developed by Özata ve Altunkan (2010). The most common used statistic tests Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Shapiro-Wilk, parametric, non-parametric, respectively. The mean score of collaboration among nurses was found to be good and above the average with 2.98±0.55. The mean score of medical error tendency scale determined 4.69±0.34, low the medical error tendency. In this study, as the collaboration among nurses increases, the drug and transfusion practices, hospital infections, patient monitoring and the safety of medical equipment, falls, communication and general medical error trend desreases (p˂0.05). The study, it determined the collaboration among nurses had a significant effect of %15.7 on the tendency of nurses to make medical error. According to the result of the study, it is concluded that possible error can be reduced by high cooperation among nurses in patient care process.
