The effects of organizational cynicism on organizational commitment in nurses

Abstract (EN)
Aim: In this research, ıt was aimed to examine the effects of organizational cynicism on organizational commitment in nurses. Material and Methods: The reserach was planned as descriptive and cross-sectional type. The population of the research composed of 928 nurses working in an Education and research hospital in Bursa. In the research the number of samples was calculated as 278 in the Epi Info 2000 program with the smallest number of samples, with the unknown prevalence of 50% (5% deviation and 95% confidence interval)(n=278). The data were collected between September 01 and February 28, 2018 by using The Individual and Professional Characteristics Form of Nurses, Organizational Commitment Scale (OCS) and Organizational Cynicism Scale (OCS). SPSS 23 package program was used for data analysis. Results: The average age of nurses in the research are 32.15 ± 7.14. 84.2% of the nurses are female, 65.1% of the nurses are married, 55.6% of the nurses have bachelor's degree, 90.3% of the nurses work in the non-executive position. It was found that the level of organizational commitment of the nurses (3,72±0,75) was low level and organizational cynicism (40,16±10,95) of the nurses were found to be moderate. It was found that is a very weak negative correlation (r = -0, 215) between Organizational Cynicism Scale total score and Organizational Commitment Scale total score. Conclusions: In the research, organizational cynicism levels of the nurses negatively effect their organizational commitment. Key Words: Nursing, Organizational Commitment, Organizational Cynicism
