Abstract (EN)

8.SUMMARYAim: Jaundice is the cammon problem of newborns problems which may seen also physiolojically. It is the important that early diagnosis and treatment of hyperbilirubinemi to prevent the BIND. Although exchange transfusion that used for immediate therapy of indirect hyperbilirubinemia is an effective treatment method; sometimes complications may occur. In present study, the etiology of hiperbilirubinemia, related complications and risk factors of exchange transfusion, clinical characteristics of patients were studied in our hospital.Materials and methods: We describe our experience retrospectively of 35 exchange transfusions performed from May 2009-December 2011 in 25 newborns with hyperbilirubinemia who had hospitalized in neonatal intensive care units 1-2-3. Statistical analysis has been done using SPSS 16.0 software program.Results: The patients who had performed exchange transfusions of 16 were male and 9 female. The etiologies for indirekt hyperbilirubinemia were ABO immunization in 6 newborns, ABO plus hypothiroidi in 2, Rh isoimmunization in 7 and unknown causes in 5 newborns. RhIG was performed only 2 mothers of babies who were diagnosed with Rh isoimmunization. Biochemical abnormalities were the most detected complications.Conclusions: Although exchange transfusion that used for immediate therapy of indirect hyperbirubinemia is an effective treatment method; the best approach for preventing neurolojical sequels related to indirect hyperbilirubinemia is detecting the babies which have risk factors of hiperbilirubinemia before discharge and periodic controls in case of early interventions.Keywords: Hyperbilirubinemia, exchange transfusion, complications, ABO isoimmunization
