Abstract (EN)

Coronary artery disease patient population in Turkey is around 2 million. Every year hundred thousand new patients added in this population. In our country every year 260 thousand new coronary events and around 160 thousand coronary deaths occur. In dyslipidemia therapy some statins with long half life like atorvastatin can be taken at anytime of the day. Some statins with short half life like simvastatin and fluvastatin are suggested to use at night when cholesterol synthesised. Extended release tablets are used in many different therapeutic areas. Fluvastatin 80 mg extended release is the only statin option with this formulation. Fluvastatin 80 mg extended release tablet?s absorption rate is 60% lower than immediate release formulation and tablet?s duration is extended for 4 hours. These data evoked the hypothesis that Fluvastatin 80 mg extended release can be used at anytime of the day. A total of 37 patients (18 - 56% female, mean age= 54± 8 years - in morning, 19 patients 58% female, mean age= 53± 12 years - in evening group) were enrolled to the study. The results of the study revealed that timing of usage does not influence the effect of Fluvastatin 80 mg extended release on lipid parameters (triglyceride, total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, ApoA1 and ApoB) and does not cause any deterioration in safety parameters (AST, ALT, creatinine, CRP and CPK.Fluvastatin 80 mg extended release can be used at any time of the day efficaciously in dyslipidemia treatment without any risk increase in terms of safety.
