Abstract (EN)

There are two important purposes of use alternative fuels. The fuel should be environmentalist and provide to energy efficiency. Natural gas is more environmentally friendly and more economical compared to other alternative fuels. For this reason it is quite advantageous in terms of its use in vehicle engines. Natural gas is an ideal fuel for spark ignition engines because of it possesses high octane value and characteristics. Not necessary of main change at the engine to ensure that a spark-ignition engine works with the natural gas. It is enough to apply the CNG fuel conversion system to the engine and perform the ECU configuration of the system. The purpose of this study is; experimentally determining and comparison of changes in engine performance characteristics when natural gas is used instead of gasoline. CNG fuel conversion was applied to a homogeneous filled spark ignition engine. Multi-point injected sequential type CNG fuel conversion system was used to in the conversion process. The experiment engine was made operable with natural gas besides gasoline. Experimental measurements were carried out at experiment engine of conditions in working situations with gasoline or with natural gas. Engine torque, amount of fuel consumption, exhaust gas emissions, exhaust gas temperatures, air surplus coefficient, vibration density and noise fierceness measurements were performed. Experimental measurements along with were calculated engine power, air-fuel ratios, specific fuel consumption, effective yield and specific energy cost. The data obtained were compared and interpreted. It has been seen that the engine power and engine torque have decreased when executed with natural gas. It has been observed that there is the significant decrease in CO, CO2, HC and NO emissions. It has been seen at increase of that the exhaust gas temperatures. It has been seen at provide more economical fuel consumption. It has been determined that the effective yield has decreased. Significant change in engine vibration intensity hasn't been observed. It has been determined that the noise intensity has decreased. Keywords: CNG, Natural Gas, Homogeneous-Filled, Spark Ġgnition Engines, Engine Performance, Exhaust Gas Emissions
