Abstract (EN)
The Noah?s Flood theme in the Christian Iconography has been studied iconographically on 86 artefacts that we have determined. The story of the Noah?s Flood has been primarily tackled in the written sources in history in general terms, then the texts on the Noah?s Flood in Judaism and in Christianity have been studied together with the mythologic flood legends in the pre-Old Testament period. The researches on the history of the Old Testament as the iconographic source of the story of the Noah?s Flood and the archeological excavations that are shedding light to these researches have been identified. Information has been laid down on the Black Sea Flood and the Flood hyphothesis that have been put forth as a result of the geological researches conducted in recent years. Starting from the mythological legends, the subject of the Noah?s Flood, the story of the Flood in Judaism and the symbolic reflections in the Bible (New Testament) have been studied. The artefacts studied have been explained in detail in terms of their conceptual and iconographic meanings, and the aspects relevant or irrelevant to the iconography, relevance of the expressionist depiction to the iconography, areas where the artistic individualism prevails, reflection of the cultural and artistic trends of the period of the artefacts have been tackled in comparison with each other.
