Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, coverage enhancement through multihop relaying in cellular radio communication system which contains a mobile user acting as a relay between sender and destination is investigated. The channel models which are used in numerical calculations contain Rician/Rayleigh fading, white noise (AWGN) and path loss. The effects of various combining methods and diversity protocols on the multihop cellular radio system performance are investigated. Additionally, the effects of various error correction methods on performance of the multihop cellular radio system are investigated. Our simulation results demonstrate that amplify and forward protocol shows a better performance than decode and forward protocol. Also the results show that to combine incoming signals at the receiver exactly, the channel information should be acquired precisely. The physical distance of the relay both to the sender and to the destination has a large effect on the multihop cellular radio system performance. Also in this work, the effects of relaying node selection on performance of the multihop cellular radio system are investigated. Various numerical calculations are carried out for relaying node selection criteria based on physical distance and path loss. The acquired results indicate that choosing a relaying node which is solely based on physical distance is not as effective on the performance of the multihop cellular radio system as choosing one based on path loss.
