Abstract (EN)

This descriptive study aimed to determine factors of pain and assesment of pain in individuals living in nursing home. The study has been performed three nursing home which were located in Antalya between 01.08.2010 and 01.11.2010. The sample was composed stratified sampling method and total 145 elderly people were included.Data were collected using questionnaire, Standardized Mini Mental Test, Visual Analog Scale and McGill pain questionnaire which was developed by resarcher based on the literature. The questionnaire consists demographic and pain history as well as the questions about individuals living in nursing homes. The data was analysed using descriptive statistics, Chi-square, Mann Whitney U, Kruskall-Wallis H and correlation tests.The results of this study showed that gender, previous work status, duration of nursing home, needing help in activities of daily living, the current applications of non-drug use, regular use case analgesics were associated with pain. Comprehensive and objective methods to assess pain in elderly individuals, suggestions were made.Keywords: Assesment of pain, nursing, old age, nursing home.
