ABSTRACT A FLOURISTIC STUDY OF HERBACEOUS PLANTS ON HUZURLU HIGH PLATEAU (GAZİANTEP) PEHLİVAN, Mustafa M. Sc. in Biology Supervisor: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yusuf ZEYNALOV January 2005, 112 pages This study was carried out between 2002 and 2004 to determine the flora of Huzurlu High Plateau. Research area, is situated in northeast of Amanos mountains, falls within C6 square of grid system and is located in cross- point between the İrano- Turanien and the Mediterranean phytogeographical regions. As a result of investigations, mostly, Mediterranean elements were found in the research area. A total of 1213 plant specimens were collected in the area. Of the 1213 plant specimens collected, 43 families, 136 genera and 210 taxa were determined. Of the 210 taxa, Pteridophyta, Spermatophyta were 6, 204, respectively. 31 of taxa were endemic for Turkey. The distribution of taxa according to phytogeographical regions as follows: Mediterranean 51 (% 24), İrano- Turanien 33 (%16), Euro-Siberian 13 (%6) and 113 (%54) widespread or unknown. The families with the most number of taxa in the research area were Aster aceae (25), Lamiaceae (23), Fabaceae (22), Poaceae (14), Brassicaceae (10). The genera with the most number of species were Salvia (9), Trifolium (7), Anthemis (5), and Geranium (5). 26 taxa were new records for the C6 square.
