Moses' successor Joshua and the Book of Joshua

The aim of this study is to discuss the life and importance of Joshua, who has a valuable position in terms of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Although some of the beliefs regarding Joshua in the three Semitic religions are similar, there are differences as well, therefore, in this study, the Book of Joshua and Joshua himself were examined based on the perspective and terminology of each religion. Our study consists of an introduction, two chapters and a conclusion. In the introduction, the subject, importance and purpose of our study are explained and its scope is defined; the sources we used in our study and the method of the study were revealed and the difficulties we encountered during our research were also explained. In the first chapter, Joshua has been examined under three main headings, namely in Judaism, Christianity and Islamic culture in terms of historical and cultural context, and while explaining Joshua in Judaism, information about the promised land belief and prophecy is given by considering his military and religious leadership. In the second chapter, firstly, the subject of Jewish Holy Books was summarized, the position of the Book of Joshua among these texts was revealed, and the composition and content of the Book of Joshua as a sacred text were evaluated. In the last section of this chapter, the place of Joshua in the Jewish holy literature was examined, and in the conclusion chapter, Joshua, the successor of Moses, was compared in terms of his place in Judaism, Christianity and Islamic culture, and the importance of Joshua was tried to be explained appropriately.
