Abstract (EN)

There is evidence that ?Rapid Infusion Systems? which provide rapid and warmed blood in emergency situations, may cause injury to erythrocytes.Objective:.We aimed to determine the injury; Level 1 1000 rapid infusion system may cause on erythrocytes under different pressures and observe the developing alterations.Material and Method: After approval of Dokuz Eylul University Medical Faculty ?Clinical and Laboratory Research Local Ethics Committee?, 10 young and healthy volunteers were included in the study and two packed erythrocyte suspensions (150 mL) were collected from each volunteer and stored at the blood bank. Blood samples (n=10) were collected from one day old erythrocyte suspensions for light and electron microscopic examination and determination of K+, HbF, and basal ?EI? (Basal) levels. Erythrocyte suspensions were randomized into two groups and following application of 150 and 300 mmHg pressures by Level 1 1000 rapid infusion system (Group 150 and Group 300), similar blood samples (n=10) were collected to determine the effects of the process. The temperatures of erythrocyte suspensions were recorded before and after the process. All laboratory analyses were carried out by ?blinded? practitioners.Results: Twenty units of erythrocyte suspensions, which were prepared from 10 healthy volunteers aged 29-39 years, were used in this study.It was observed that the basal temperatures of erythrocyte suspensions in Group 150 and Group 300 (5.53±0.29;5.39±0.24 0C, respectively) were significantly increased after passing through the rapid infusion system 30.76±0.78; 30.00±1.12 0C) (p<0.05).The HbF levels increased proportional to applied pressures and was in the order of basal valuesKeyword: Eritrositler = Erythrocytes ; Kan = Blood ; Kan transfüzyonu = Blood transfusion ; Yüksek basınç = High pressure
