Deputies and their political activities in the I. TGNA (1920-1923)

The Entente Powers began to invade the Anatolian lands immediately after the First World War. In this context, the city of Mersin was occupied for four years (17 December 1918 - 3 January 1922). In this case, the people of Anatolia tried to defend their homeland in the movement of Kuvâ-yi Milliye, which was under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Pasha. Mustafa Kemal Pasha's salvation, which he had though for the liberation of the country, was to move to Anatolia and open a parliament in a place far from occupation and set up a government and army unclear the control of this parliament and save the country from the occupation and establish a new Turkish state. More importantly, this new state will be a completely independent new Turkish state based on national sovereignty. In this context, the foundation of a new Turkish state was laid on April 23, 1920 in Anatolia. This new parliament in Anatolia, which consists of deputies from each province, and deputies from the old Ottoman Parliament, who fled from Istanbul to Ankara, has started to carry out its projects. For this new Parliament, seven deputies were elected from Mersin province, which is the subject of this study. The purpose of this research is to provide information about the activities of Mersin Deputies they perform on behalf of the development of the country and the region during the building process of Turkey. In this study, which is organized as a master thesis, many sources and literature that may be related to the subject have been searched and new information has been tried to be reached, too. As the main subject of the study is the deputies of Mersin and their political activities, not only the parliamentary speeches of the deputies but also their political activities has been explained in the study in detail. In this context, the developments before and after the establishment of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, the resumes of the deputies of Mersin, the parliamentary speeches, and the proposals they made in the parliament were discussed in the study by giving extensive information about the deputies.
