Abstract (EN)
Introduction and Aim: Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCMP) is the commonest cardiomyopathy in children, and most of its etiology is idiopathic. Micro RNAs have a role in the regulation of protein synthesis. They are found both in cells and circulation. In this study we aimed to define a biomarker for childhood DCMP by comparing the plasma expression levels of microRNAs between children with DCMP and controls.Materials and Methods: This study was performed on 23 children with DCMP and 26 healthy children who were admitted to pediatric outpatient clinic of University of Gaziantep between January and September 2011. Echocardiographic measurements of all children were done. Blood samples were taken, and expression levels of 379 microRNAs were searched in each plasma. The miRNA expression levels of DCMP group and control group were compared. Results: Four miRNAs out of 379, which were studied, showed complete expression in all children. The expression levels of 12 miRNAs out of 35 whose expression levels were higher than %20 in whole study group (DCMP and control groups) were significantly different in the DCMP group compared to the controls. The expression levels of miR-518f and miR-454 were higher, and miR-618, miR-857-3p, miR-205, miR-194, miR-302a, miR-147, miR-544, hsa-miR-99b, miR-155, miR-218 were lower in the DCMP group compared to the controls. Conclusion: This study showed that miR-618, miR-875-3p, and miR-205 are miRNAs that show expression the most, and are significantly different in the DCMP group compared to the controls. These findings could be useful for further studies in determining the miRNA pool and in interpretation of resultant data.
