Reflections of Germany's occupation of the Balkan countries in the Second World War to the Turkish press

It has decided to progress in line with its "Life Field" policy. Germany and Turkey continues its relationship in a good way in this period. In this period, alliances and blocs were established between states. Despite good relations with Turkey it was not included in any block and has chosen to remain neutral. The Second World War occurred with Germany's attack on Poland. Turkey, Germany was concerned about the attitude towards Europe and the Balkans. The press, which is the most effective means of communication, has been the most important means of providing information about the details of the war, its progress and the policies followed. Germany, advancing to the Balkans, was frequently featured in the Turkish Press. In this direction, it has followed a neutral attitude in the war. The policy pursued brought restrictions on the press. The press has harshly criticized Germany's entry into the Balkans, although it has to abide by the government's policy of neutrality. Although there have been some oppositions, they are generally united at a common point. While dealing with the occupations of Romania, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia and Greece in their writings, the newspaper writers took into account the pre-war relations, the events that took place during the war and the attitudes of these states. The inclusion of Bulgaria, Romania and Yugoslavia in the Axis has not prevented their German occupation. Both the participation of the states in the Axis and the German occupation were met with criticism in the Turkish Press. In short, the Turkish Press criticized the states that broke national unity and did not protect their independence, and praised them when efforts were made for their independence.
